Unit Description

This unit provides an understanding of the legal, regulatory compliance and ethical frameworks including the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, that govern the early childhood education and care sector. Preservice teachers will develop the skills to identify policy, legal, compliance and ethical implications for a range of situations and practically based scenarios and develop skills to navigate their legal and ethical professional responsibilities and how to navigate their legal and ethical professional responsibilities

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate knowledge of legislation and policies governing early childhood education and care.
2.	Apply knowledge of the interrelationship between the legal responsibilities and the ethical requirements of early childhood educators.
3.	Demonstrate critical understanding and application of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the implications for children.
4.	Demonstrate critical awareness of factors that can violate children's rights and obligations to Child Protection.
5.	Develop strategies for responding to and managing conflict.
