Unit Description

This unit will develop preservice teachers' specialised knowledge for the professional practice of learning and teaching business studies in the junior years of secondary education. This will be achieved through critical refection, analysis and synthesis of the Australian Curriculum, in particular business studies, economics, legal studies and accounting. The unit equips preservice teachers with the in-depth knowledge, relevant literacy and numeracy skills and teaching strategies, including explicit teaching, modelling, and scaffolding skills to implement the Australian Curriculum across core business studies areas. Through critically reviewing multiple disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, preservice teachers will be provided with the opportunity to apply diverse pedagogical practices to engage students. The unit will develop preservice teachers' skills to think critically and constructively.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply content knowledge to design learning experiences that reflect the strands in Australian Humanities and Social Science curriculum.
2.	Demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability to plan teaching and learning experiences appropriate to age and stage of learning development, including explicit teaching, modelling and scaffolding.
3.	Critically apply established theories and strategies appropriate for meeting the learning needs of students from a range of diverse backgrounds.
4.	Apply current research to reconstruct conceptual knowledge for the learning and teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences.
5.	Revise a range of resources, including those provided through professional associations, appropriate for the teaching of Humanities and Social Sciences.
6.	Critique and apply appropriate resources, including technologies, to enhance literacy and numeracy skills of students.
