| The unit will develop students' mathematical knowledge in number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics and probability as well as build appropriate skills for mathematical problem-solving. The content areas are explored progressively from foundational concepts to support the development of preservice teachers' personal mathematical proficiency as well as raise awareness of the common progression of learning in the math subject area. Preservice teachers will build positive attitudes towards the teaching and learning of numeracy as they experience how scaffolded learning and retrieval supports effective development of mathematical concept knowledge, with scaffolding progressively removed as students' progress. As part of their learning, students collaboratively develop multi-strand numeracy assessments, test them with peers, and refine them using constructive feedback. |
