It is expected that students will have completed at least the first two years of their program before undertaking this work experience. However, if there is opportunity to complete some aspects of the professional practice experience at an earlier stage of their study, students may contact the Unit Coordinator to request this.

Unit Description

Are you ready to take what you have learned in class and apply it in real-world engineering contexts? This unit invites you to build your professional identity through 300 hours of hands-on, work-integrated learning. You will engage in meaningful activities such as industry placements, applied projects, or networking events that mirror the environments engineers work in every day. These hours count toward the work-integrated learning requirements in your course and give you the chance to demonstrate the professional and personal attributes expected of graduate engineers. These include areas such as ethical conduct, effective communication, teamwork, leadership, self-management, and creative problem-solving, as outlined in Engineers Australia's Stage 1 Competency Standard. This is more than a requirement; it is your opportunity to grow into the engineer you aspire to be.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically evaluate practical workplace findings and synthesise them into coherent, professional written presentations aligned with engineering standards.
2.	Evaluate the application and impact of engineering practices in real-world workplace contexts.
3.	Reflect on and justify the role of lifelong learning in professional engineering practice, in alignment with Engineers Australia's expectations.
4.	Critically apply and reflect on the ethical and professional responsibilities of engineers in accordance with Engineers Australia's Code of Ethics.
5.	Critically evaluate and apply the professional and personal attributes required by Engineers Australia's Stage 1 Competency Standard for Professional Engineers--including ethical accountability, effective communication, creativity, information management, self-leadership, and teamwork--within complex professional and engineering contexts.
