| This unit adopts a systems approach to addressing current global and national environmental issues and offering solutions from ecological, economic, social, and cultural perspectives. Issues studied include global warming, overpopulation, land productivity, biodiversity conservation, and environmental quality. Solutions encompass new initiatives, ranging from local to global scales, aimed at protecting, restoring, or managing natural systems. International and Australian cases are used to illustrate key principles. Although a science background is an advantage in understanding key content, the unit is suitable for students from a wide range of disciplines, since it aims to investigate trans-disciplinary approaches to interpret and address issues that underpin our living on planet Earth. |
