Unit Description

This unit is designed to provide students with an up-to-date perspective on tropical invasive species and biosecurity. The unit aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to perform as a professional project officer or natural resource manager, who can evaluate, prioritise and implement invasive species management programs at a range of scales.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Evaluate problems and risks (potential and existing) associated with invasive species.
2.	Review and synthesise knowledge of the types and significance of invasive species, particularly in the tropics.
3.	Integrate and apply an understanding of social, political, economic and environmental impacts of invasive species.
4.	Evaluate and apply knowledge of current techniques used in the control and monitoring of invasive species.
5.	Critique current strategies for the management of invasive species.
