Unit Description

The aim of this unit is to develop a greater understanding of the various issues surrounding fire in northern Australia. The teaching and learning materials used provide a wide range of information which draws upon the latest expertise in fire ecology and management. The purpose of these course materials is to bring these resources together and to challenge students, who expect to work in natural resource management at the completion of their course, to use and critically evaluate them.

1.	Develop knowledge of fire behaviour, ecology, and management in northern Australia
2.	Identify environmental, social , political and economic implications of fire management in northern Australia
3.	Critically review current fire management practices and conflicts in northern Australia
4.	Evaluate and plan strategies for adaptive fire management in northern Australia
5.	Apply understanding of the literature to resolve problems
