Unit Description

This unit is the capstone of the Master of Environmental Management course. Students plan, execute and write up a substantial piece of research with the individual support of a research supervisor who provides discipline expertise and academic mentoring. The unit involves the preparation of a project proposal as a hurdle assessment, before the commencement of the research project.

Students are expected to have identified a research topic and supervisor in the semester prior to the commencement of this unit.

This 40 credit point unit is for students who will complete the research project full-time over one semester.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Locate, retrieve and critique a range of digital and non-digital sources to evaluate the reliability and relevance to their field of research.
2.	Apply well developed logical and critical thinking skills to solve research problems in innovative and creative ways, and apply these solutions to their chosen field of research.
3.	Apply detailed knowledge of the theoretical and technical issues important in their chosen field of research.
4.	Communicate scientific and technical information via written texts using a range of graphical and numerical tools.
5.	Analyse the ethical, cultural and/or social considerations of the context for their chosen field of research
6.	Apply planning, problem-solving and analytical skills that are relevant to a variety of contexts and situations.
7.	Engage effectively with others by applying initiative, independence and responsibility, to successfully complete a research project
