Unit Description

This unit develops curriculum content knowledge and pedagogical approaches required for effective science education in the primary education years. Preservice teachers will plan and develop learning experiences in science education and integrated curriculum. Key topics in science will be explored through scientific inquiry pedagogies and learning will focus on 'real-world' science applications in context of people's lives including strategies for integrating First Nations knowledge and culture. Strategies for differentiating learning for diverse student cohorts will be explored with particular focus on supporting literacy and numeracy development in context of science. Effective use of digital resources such as games, online research, and simulated models, will be explored to support practical exploration of science concepts.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of curriculum content, learning outcomes and assessment strategies, and the 5Es planning model in lesson sequence design.
2.	Demonstrate effective pedagogical practice through well-sequenced units of science knowledge with clear explanations, clearly explained goals, and integrated recall practice
3.	Articulate and construct science knowledge learning units that are relevant to real-world application, are inclusive of First Nations knowledge and culture, and aligned with the science learning goals for primary aged children.
4.	Demonstrate development of positive attitudes for effective science education in safe environments.
5.	Demonstrate the teaching of scientific literacy and numeracy.
