This placement unit offers the student a significant opportunity to acquire practical, hands-on experience within community-based, humanitarian, or development aid agencies. The student will be immersed in the day-to-day operational environment of these organisations across diverse settings, including remote, rural, and urban areas within Australia, as well as potentially in international locations, for a sustained duration.
The primary objective of this placement is to equip students with practical skills and direct exposure to the realities of community development and international aid work. This placement contributes to meeting the professional practice requirements stipulated by Community Work Australia. The student will be responsible for completing tasks as negotiated between the host agency and the academic supervisor.
For students pursuing accreditation with Community Work Australia, this unit comprises 160 hours and is the first of two fieldwork placements (totalling 400 hours). Upon successful completion of this unit, the student will be required to enrol in HCS363 Professional Practice Placement 2 to undertake their second and final placement.
