Unit Description

In this unit you will undertake an in-depth examination of safety and quality in health care. Safety and quality in health care is aligned to legislation, standards, governance structures, accreditation, risk management, ethical practices, and open disclosure. This unit examines these key areas and how they are used in healthcare. You will engage with evidence and research as they undertake inquiry-based learning to build their knowledge of safety and quality in health care.

Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the USQHC1 Graduate Certificate of Safety and Quality in Health Science Delivery, UOPNC1 Graduate Certificate of Older Person Nursing Care, and SCNU01 Master of Clinical Nursing.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Articulate the concepts of safety and quality in healthcare across diverse care contexts.
2.	Interpret legislation, standards and governance structures and accreditation and explain their influence on safety and quality.
3.	Critically review risk management strategies and their connection to ethical safety and quality practices.
4.	Design inclusive and culturally sensitive strategies that aim to advance safety and quality in health care.
5.	Critique approaches to quality improvement and use of best practice in healthcare delivery.
