Unit Description

This unit provides students with an introduction to theories and concepts of ethics, as well as key areas such as bioethics, risk, consent and benefit. Students will be introduced to the core principles for the application of ethics in health care and research. There is an exploration of how ethics is applied within the healthcare setting, particularly related to the practices across health promotion, health services management, public health and allied health professions.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Explain and analyse ethical theories, concepts, and principles in healthcare and research, applying them to real-world scenarios.
2.	Identify ethical principles specific to healthcare practice and the professional Codes of Conduct and Standards of Practice.
3.	Analyse cultural security and cultural safety as key ethical principles in healthcare and their application in professional practice.
4.	Explain the purpose and rationale of advocacy and consumer rights in ethical healthcare practice, with a focus on informed consent.
5.	Identify specific ethical issues and related challenges of working in within a diverse cultural framework.
