| In this unit, you examine how meaning is constructed, represented and interpreted at the word, phrase and sentence levels, and how context influences its interpretation. Considering both theoretical and real-world applications, the unit explores meaning across a range of different languages, including First Nations languages, to highlight linguistic and cultural diversity and ways that languages can reflect different perspectives and worldviews. You will develop skills in semantics and pragmatics with applications in fields such as language documentation and revitalisation, translation and interpreting, language teaching, intercultural communication, and natural language processing and AI. |
