Unit Description

In this unit students propose, develop and implement a component of a research project that will constitute the exegesis of their study project at the Honours or Postgraduate level. The nature of the project will be determined by the student's initial proposal, developed in conjunction with a supervisor and be indicative of the students capacity to undertake advanced research within their chosen discipline.
Students will, as a result of studying in this unit, demonstrate an element of their abilities to draft a coherent project proposal, apply a set of critical and theoretical parameters from the field and show evidence of a capacity for rigorous analytical assessment and evaluation of their creative work and/or the context of its exhibition.
Enrolment in this unit will signal that a component of their thesis work in the compilation or development of a creative work that is placed on exhibition and the methodology of the creation explained and critiqued. All students are required to enrol in a combination of units to fulfill the requirement of their study program. Where the creation or design of artifacts is a component of this research, at least one instance of enrolment in this unit should comprise part of the research work for the course.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critique a range of resources and evaluate their reliability and relevance to a chosen field of creative research.
2.	Apply critical and reflexive thinking skills to complex research problems in innovative and creative ways for a chosen field of creative research.
3.	Critically review and evaluate theoretical knowledge relevant to a chosen field of creative research.
4.	Apply an appropriate methodology to the development of complex creative work and its exhibition.
5.	Conduct creative research in a manner that reflects appropriate cultural sensitivity in the context of research in a chosen field.
6.	Present or exhibit, and analyse complex creative works using relevant methods in the light of relevant theoretical, methodological and cultural frameworks.
7.	Communicate complex research findings and analysis in an exegesis format.
