Unit Description

This unit offers an overview of the legal regimes by which the resources and energy industry sectors of Australia, and of a selection of other national jurisdictions, are regulated and facilitated. The unit examines the origins and development of Australia's relevant laws. It allows students to acquire an appropriate level of practical and theoretical knowledge concerning a range of legal issues that arise in mineral and petroleum exploration and production in Australia and a selection of other global locations.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify, discuss and analyse important themes and foundational concepts in Resources and Energy Law.
2.	Analyse and evaluate the structure and features of resources and energy law in Australia.
3.	Critically evaluate aspects of Resources and Energy Law. This includes an understanding of the common law principles and engagement the broader international, transnational and comparative contexts.
4.	Apply legal problem solving skills, by using Resources and Energy law principles and case law in providing advice on disputes in hypothetical problem and actual case law situations.
5.	Communicate in ways that are persuasive and effective for legal and non-legal audiences, in written and oral form, in Resources and Energy law context.
