Unit Description

This unit, which satisfies the Priestly 11 requirements, introduces you to the law of contract. The topics to be covered in this unit include rules and principles in relation to formation of contracts, certainty and finality of terms, privity, equitable estoppels, terms in a contract, breach and performance of contract, vitating factors, frustration, illegality, and remedies. This unit will include a comparative transnational and/or international element, where appropriate.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify, discuss and analyse important themes and foundational concepts in Contract Law in relation to formation of an enforceable contract
2.	Analyse and evaluate the structure and features of Contract law principles such as offer, acceptance, consideration, express and implied terms, vitiating factors, discharge of contract and damages.
3.	Develop a broad understanding of basic working knowledge of Contract Law and legal mechanisms by operation of common law and statute. This includes evaluating of the principles and legislation underpinning contractual obligations and engage the broader international, transnational and comparative context.
4.	Applying legal problem-solving skills and Contract Law rules and principles in providing advice on issues arising from hypothetical problems and actual case situations.
5.	Communicate in ways that are persuasive and effective for legal and non-legal audiences, in written and oral form, in contract law context.
