Unit Description

This is the third practical unit in a series of six clinical midwifery units. Students continue to learn midwifery practice skills to provide safe and competent midwifery care to women and infants. The focus of this unit is on skills related to midwifery care of the woman experiencing complexity arising during pregnancy and of the newborn at birth. To meet accreditation requirements students must demonstrate the capacity to establish, build and maintain continuity of midwifery care in their Continuity of Midwifery Care experiences (CoMCE). Students will also attend 40 hours of simulation block (hurdle) and complete 120 hours Professional Experience Placement (PEP) (hurdle) allocated by CDU as a part of this unit. Important Information

Please note that MID211 is co-requisite with MID210. Students enrolling in this unit must also enrol in MID210.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate competence in skills used in midwifery practice when caring for a woman with a complex pregnancy.
2.	Establish, build and maintain continuity of midwifery care through the recruitment of women as per the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) requirements.
3.	Demonstrate professional competence in the workplace in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Midwife Standards for Practice relevant to students' scope of practice.
