Unit Description

In this unit students continue to learn midwifery practice skills to provide safe and competent midwifery care to women, babies and their families. The focus of this unit is on skills related to midwifery care of the woman experiencing complexity arising during pregnancy and of the newborn at birth. To meet accreditation requirements students must demonstrate the capacity to establish, build and maintain continuity of midwifery care in their Continuity of Midwifery Care experiences. Students will also attend 32 hours of simulation block (hurdle) and complete 240 hours Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE) (hurdle) allocated by CDU as a part of this unit. Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery (TMIDW1).

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate competence in skills used in midwifery practice when caring for a woman and her fetus with a perinatal complex situation.
2.	Utilise digital health strategies to access evidence to inform safe, quality midwifery care for a woman or her fetus/neonate experiencing a perinatal complexity.
3.	Demonstrate capacity to establish, build and maintain continuity of midwifery care through the recruitment of women and subsequent engagement.
4.	Demonstrate professional competence in the workplace in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA) Midwife Standards for Practice relevant to student's scope of practice.
5.	Review and apply the consultation and referral processes when a woman requires care, beyond the scope of midwifery practice.
