| This unit is designed to introduce students to the various disciplines encountered in a diagnostic laboratory. Students will gain insight into the role of a medical scientist concerning specimen collection, disease diagnosis, quality assurance, laboratory accreditation, point of care testing, and professional practice. Through practical sessions, students will acquire the essential knowledge and skills to safely perform a range of basic laboratory tests, including calculations, which are a critical component of this course. Additionally, students will experience a tour of the Royal Darwin Hospital pathology laboratory to provide students, further enhancing their familiarity with the diagnostic laboratory environment. |
