| In this unit, students will delve into the field of molecular pathology, where diseases are examined and understood at a molecular level. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, the focus will be on using molecular techniques in a diagnostic laboratory setting for cancer, genetic disorders, and infectious disease diagnosis and treatment. Emphasis will be placed on the principles and applications of molecular biological tests and advanced genomic technologies with students being able to analyse, interpret and report on genomic data, isolate DNA/RNA, conduct diagnostic recombinant DNA techniques, investigate gene expression patterns and polymorphisms, and understand the use of stem cells, gene therapy, and personalised medicine |
