Unit Description

In this unit students will participate in a Professional Experience Placement in an accredited health care setting to apply knowledge and skills introduced in previous units. Students will demonstrate person-centred care and professional behaviours within a first year scope of practice for an undergraduate Registered Nurse. During Professional Experience Placement students will engage in person-centred care in health care organisations using the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice and the National Safety Quality Healthcare Service Standards.

To meet accreditation requirements students must attend 160 hours of Professional Experience Placement (allocated by the Faculty of Health Placement Office) as a part of this unit.

Students can only undertake their 160 hours of Professional Experience Placement after they have successfully completed NUR138 Simulation Block.

Important Information

The unit includes 160 hours of compulsory Professional Experience Placement (PEP) and students are expected to meet all costs for travel and accommodation in relation to the PEP.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate competency in accordance with CDU nursing's first-year scope of practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice.
2.	Demonstrate culturally safe nursing assessment of physical, social, emotional, mental and cognitive health in a clinical setting.
3.	Demonstrate professional documentation and culturally safe communication within a multidisciplinary team in the clinical setting.
4.	Apply evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate person-centred care in response to health variations in individuals across the lifespan
5.	Demonstrate safety and quality in an undergraduate nursing first year scope of practice in relation to medication management and infection control in accordance with the NSQHS standards
