This unit introduces students to the theoretical foundations of nursing care, focusing on chronic disease management, health promotion, and the role of technology in healthcare. The unit emphasises the importance of health promotion and disease prevention, encouraging students to advocate for patient-centred lifestyles that support long-term wellness and wellbeing. Students will be introduced to the principles of infection control, foundational nursing care, use of evidence, and the clinical reasoning cycle. Students will begin to apply the clinical reasoning cycle which they will use to explore care planning for person's who require additional health care support across the lifespan.
Through case studies and theoretical frameworks, students will learn how to develop person-centred nursing care plans, assess patient needs, set goals, and apply evidence-based interventions to support recovery and improve health outcomes.
