This unit explores the role of nurses in providing culturally safe person-centred care within extended care settings. Students will build on existing clinical reasoning and decision-making skills to deliver holistic nursing interventions for individuals with chronic, life-limiting, or age-related conditions. The unit emphasises the importance of compassionate, culturally safe, and ethical care, with a focus on the professional responsibilities of nurses in supporting patient care requirements.
Students will critically evaluate the impact of social determinants of health on care delivery and apply evidence-informed strategies to optimise patient outcomes guided by health policy. Leadership in advocacy for patient rights, dignity, and quality of life will be explored, alongside the development of strategies that promote equity in health care and patient self-management. This unit equips students with the knowledge and skills required to provide high-quality care in extended care settings, demonstrating independent judgment and adherence to best practices.
