This unit extends the knowledge of students to the role of the Registered Nurse in primary healthcare settings, emphasising care across the lifespan. The unit explores the impact of global and national frameworks on healthcare delivery, helping students understand how policy shapes nursing practice and community health. By focusing on culturally sensitive, person-centred care students will learn to promote health and prevent disease in diverse populations.
Students will develop skills in applying evidence-based and strengths-based approaches to nursing care, including assessing, planning, and evaluating care for individuals, families, and communities. The unit will cover strategies used to address community health needs, including screening and early intervention, while ensuring quality and safety through adherence to national and regulatory standards. By completing this unit students will gain the knowledge and skills to contribute to primary healthcare as Registered Nursing students, with a strong foundation in both clinical practice and public health.
