Unit Description

This unit focuses on patient safety and person-centred nursing care for patients with conditions that affect the endocrine system. The unit provides the nurse with an extension of endocrine knowledge and contemporary nursing practice guided by evidence. The unit utilises inquiry-based learning and case studies to create a foundation on which patients with a range of acute and chronic endocrine conditions are assessed and their individual needs prioritised and managed by the nurse.

Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the UMEDN1 Graduate Certificate of Medical Nursing and SCNU01 Master of Clinical Nursing.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Articulate endocrine anatomy and explain the pathophysiology of acute and chronic endocrine conditions.
2.	Conduct holistic and comprehensive assessments of patients with endocrine conditions.
3.	Critically evaluate the management of acute and chronic endocrine conditions and reflect upon the patient and nurse experience.
4.	Collaboratively design and develop a culturally safe person-centred care plan.
5.	Critically analyse and justify the care provided to patients with endocrine conditions drawing on contemporary evidence.
