This unit explores the registered nurse's role in caring for the patient who has undergone surgical intervention after traumatic injury. Existing knowledge of anatomy and physiology creates a foundation for examining the kinematics of trauma, patterns and mechanisms of injury and the presentation of conditions that require surgical intervention. Evidence and research will be used to critique best practice person-centred nursing care across a range of traumatic injuries. The unit utilises inquiry-based learning and case studies to explore the physiological response to traumatic injury and surgical interventions.
This unit is only available to students enrolled in the USURN1 Graduate Certificate of Surgical Nursing and SCNU01 Master of Clinical Nursing.
