Assumed Knowledge

Unit Description

This unit provides students with the opportunity to engage in a real-world collaborative research project in the field of nutrition or dietetics. Students will be assigned a project and group, they will work with their group peers under the guidance of a supervisor / supervisory team, with a primary research supervisor from the discipline of nutrition and dietetics, and other supervisors, stakeholders and partners where relevant. Students will critically explore contemporary issues in nutrition and contribute to the generation of new knowledge in the field. The unit emphasizes scholarly inquiry, ethical practice, methodological rigor, and effective teamwork, preparing students for leadership roles in research, policy, and professional practice.

The unit is considered a Work Integrated Learning unit and contributes 24 days to professional placement. Additional time will be required to attend unit-based research workshops.

Important Information

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science/Master of Nutrition (HESNT1), Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Nutrition (HHSNT1), Master of Nutrition (SNTN01), and Master of Dietetics (SDIET1) students only.

1.	Critically review relevant literature on concepts and theories in nutrition practice.
2.	Apply ethical principles and processes to research practice
3.	Critically evaluate and justify research methodologies
4.	Apply research design and management strategies to plan, conduct, and report on a component of a group nutrition research project, according to agreed frameworks and research plan.
5.	Collaborate effectively in research project group with peers and supervisors
6.	Communicate research findings effectively and accurately, and discuss implications of research on practice, or policy, and future research endeavours.
