PRT803 is an advanced capstone unit in which students undertake a team-based, research-driven engineering project that simulates professional industry practice. The unit provides an opportunity to integrate and apply knowledge gained across the course to address complex, real-world engineering challenges.
Students will work collaboratively to transform a client or industry brief into a detailed engineering solution supported by a business case and applied research. The project involves the full engineering design cycle, including concept development, design, implementation, and evaluation, following the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) framework.
Through this unit, students will develop advanced skills in:
- Engineering design and system integration
- Industry-based research and analysis
- Project management and planning
- Technical documentation and business planning
- Communication, collaboration, and professional reporting
- Application of sustainability principles and life cycle analysis
By the end of the unit, students will have produced a functional, research-informed outcome that demonstrates their ability to work as industry-ready engineers, solving complex problems in multidisciplinary contexts.
