Unit Description

This unit provides you with the skills to conduct a comprehensive literature review that supports identification of a gap in research knowledge. You will learn how to write a concise introduction and research aims/questions/hypotheses that will evidence and guide investigation into this identified knowledge gap. You will apply research methodology skills to formulate and design a research protocol and you will build your knowledge for research integrity and ethical practices through preparation and submission of an ethics application or equivalent process as guided by the relevant guidelines (e.g., NHMRC, Cochrane). Throughout this unit you will develop your critical appraisal skills both in the context of research and in application to the scientist-practitioner model of practice.

This unit is completed as part of a nested sequence with PSY811 and PSY821.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically review and synthesise relevant literature related to a research topic to inform the associated research aims, questions, and hypotheses.
2.	Design an ethical research project that is based in theoretical context and exemplifies integrity in research.
3.	Apply research methodology and statistical analyses, knowledge and skills to the formulation of a research project proposal.
4.	Prepare and submit an application for approval (ethics or equivalent) to conduct research that adheres to the relevant best-practice guidelines.
