Unit Description

This unit provides students with the opportunity to gain insight into the physiotherapy profession and the role of the contemporary physiotherapist within the health care settings. Students will learn the skills for culturally responsive practice and interprofessional practice within a multidisciplinary team. Students will learn about their professional presentation and behaviour, use of informed consent and confidentiality in practice, respecting client's rights through self-determination, the use of reflection, constructive professional feedback, professional resilience and self-assessment skills.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Evaluate effective communication skills and the attributes of leaders and managers within the physiotherapy community.
2.	Demonstrate comprehension of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), and the biopsychological model and how they are applied to physiotherapy practice.
3.	Critically review the legal and professional requirements including scope of practice and registration for practice in the physiotherapy profession.
4.	Apply the theory and concepts of evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning and critical thinking to physiotherapy.
