Unit Description

In this unit students will apply knowledge of the human body and different contexts to understand the physiotherapy practice across the lifespan in a rehabilitation setting. Students will apply theories, models and professional reasoning in common cardiorespiratory, orthopaedic , neurological and gerontological conditions and begin to understand pain sciences and management in the rehabilitation setting. Additionally, students will develop skills in analysis, measurement, communication and manual handling which they will implement during the practice education.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically review scientific knowledge and connect the disease mechanism, pathophysiology and pharmacology in rehabilitation context
2.	Apply a systematic approach to client centred care that integrates knowledge and evidence and includes: assessment, interpretation of information, treatment planning, goal setting and evaluation of outcome
3.	Develop, justify and implement effective physiotherapy assessment and intervention skills in rehabilitation across the lifespan.
4.	Critically apply the attributes required of health professionals working in rehabilitation in line with the shared professional Code of Conduct and Physiotherapy practice thresholds in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
