Unit Description

This unit provides the key tenants of social work which include social justice, human rights, ethical practice and associated decision making and interventions. Using rights-based frameworks based on policy, research and practice, this unit provides students with knowledge and skills to resolve ethical dilemmas in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically analyse human rights aspects of social work practice within a variety of social work settings.
2.	Evaluate the values, principles and competing influences upon social work practice within a rights-based framework to practice.
3.	Identify and analyse practice dilemmas within social work practice.
4.	Explore global understandings of social justice concepts.
5.	Critically evaluate concepts of inequality, oppression, discrimination and disadvantage as foundations of ethical social work practice.
6.	Anticipate and defend objections to proposed solutions.
