This unit explores how language is acquired through different linguistic, sociocultural and psychological approaches to language and learning. Students explore how these various approaches apply to different language learning contexts, including first and second language acquisition, bilingualism and multilingualism, language revitalisation and maintenance, and autonomous language learning. The unit also explores the role of technology in language acquisition. Students learn how to apply key language learning theories to specific learning and teaching contexts to identify key considerations for effective language acquisition.
The Intensive 6 offering for this unit is only available to First Nations Teacher and Training Education Hub students, the First Nations students taking languages/linguistics under the Arts courses or in the Diploma of First Nations Language Work course, and is not available for online enrolment. To enrol, students will need to first consult with their course coordinator before completing the Special Enrolment form accessed via the eForms tile through CDU Portal.
