Unit Description

This capstone unit is directed at enabling students to propose, plan and undertake an independent project in the field of applied linguistics. The independent project is developed through consultation with a supervisor and allows students to conduct a research project or research-informed project pertinent to professional practice. Project scope may build on areas explored in previous units of the Master's program and should show appropriate independent scholarship. There is capacity for students to undertake projects that include policy or curriculum documents, textual or linguistic analysis, secondary analysis of existing data, or to focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify a project topic, and develop and initiate an appropriate project plan in consultation with a supervisor.
2.	Apply independent research processes through conducting and producing a synthesised literature review.
3.	Synthesise and apply appropriate research methodologies and approaches.
4.	Execute evidence-based scholarship and critically apply disciplinary knowledge and understandings to social and/or professional contexts.
5.	Develop and present an independent project in academic article format.
