Unit Description

This unit is directed at enabling students to propose, plan and undertake a research project in the field of applied linguistics. Students prepare a proposal for research-based inquiry. The proposal is developed in consultation with a supervisor and builds on previous units in the Master's program. The proposal involves an extended literature review in a defined area and justification of an appropriate research design for responding to proposed research questions, with an indication of an understanding of ethical protocols for undertaking the research project. This unit is a pre-cursor to TES809, where a final thesis is presented.

Important Information

This unit is not available for online enrolment. Students should discuss their research proposal with the unit coordinator prior to enrolling. After consultation with the unit coordinator, students will need to complete a Special Enrolment accessed via the eForms tile through CDU Portal.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Identify a research topic and develop a research plan and timeline in consultation with a supervisor.
2.	Apply independent research processes through conducting an extensive literature review in an identified topic within a defined context.
3.	Evaluate issues raised through a literature review to guide appropriate research questions.
4.	Critically review and propose appropriate research methodologies to address an identified research project in a defined context.
5.	Synthesise research methodologies and apply ethical understandings applicable to independent research in a defined context.
