Unit Catalogue

In this unit students will apply occupational therapy professional skills and competencies with minimal supervision. Students will implement the occupational therapy process, evidence based practice, clinical reasoning and reflection and therapeutic use of self. 

As this is the final unit in the course, students are required to demonstrate creativity and initiative required in a professional practice environment. This unit will assist students transitioning from student to registered occupational therapist with refinement of their professional self-identity. Students will integrate, synthesise and apply the knowledge, experiences and skills acquired through the course by participating in authentic occupational therapy practice. Students are expected to work with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability. Students will demonstrate consolidation of learning across the Masters units through a capstone piece of work. Students will reflect on their placement activity in relation to the course learning outcomes and the OTBA Competencies. Students will add to the professional portfolio developed throughout the course clearly demonstrating their personal development towards the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards for Practice. 

Students are responsible for organising and covering any travel and accommodation expenses related to the practice education. Students are advised to plan and budget accordingly for these costs as they are not included in the tuition fees for this unit.

Students must attend intensive preparation session(s) prior to the commencement of practice education and reflective session(s) post the practice education experience for 24 hours. To meet the requirements of this unit and the external accreditation requirements of the course to facilitate registration, students must attend 456 hours of placement (38 hours per week for 12 weeks) as a part of this unit. Practice education experiences will be allocated by CDU. The placement may be in traditional or non-traditional areas of practice.
