The core aim in this unit is to assist students to build confidence with the mathematical concepts necessary for tertiary study and important in employment and life. Topics such as mathematical operations, integers, decimals, percentages, fractions, ratios, and proportional thinking will be explored progressively from foundational levels. These topics will be extended into selected components of measurement and algebra.
Study in the unit will assist students to develop their academic numeracy, by refining their ability to apply, interpret, communicate, and critique mathematical concepts in various contexts and disciplines. The range of learning experiences provided will enable students to develop skills in identifying key information and selecting appropriate strategies to interpret and solve problems. This unit includes a range of applications relevant to tertiary studies and real-world contexts. Study materials provide ample opportunities to revise and build confidence in key concepts, while also familiarising students with the university's online learning environment.
