| Recent advances across Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are rapidly reshaping how we understand and respond to complex environmental challenges. This unit examines contemporary developments in science and technology through three focused modules: (1) Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on the ethical, effective, and critical use of AI tools, including prompt design and evaluation of outputs; (2) Advances in Climate Science, including emerging insights into climate processes, projections, and implications; and (3) Biodiversity in the Anthropocene, which explores how emerging technologies, such as environmental DNA, remote sensing, and AI-driven species identification, are transforming our ability to monitor, understand, and conserve ecosystems under accelerating human-driven change. The unit adopts a STEM practices approach, engaging students with real-world case studies and data to develop analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students will evaluate the capabilities and limitations of modern technologies, interpret scientific evidence, and assess the broader societal and environmental implications of scientific and technological innovation. |
