Unit Description

This unit establishes a foundation to systematic reviews in which students will be introduced to levels of evidence and systematic reviews; components of a review question and a review protocol; search strategies and principles of PRISMA for data extraction and analysis. On completion of this unit, students are expected to have an overall understanding of the process of conducting a systematic review.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically appraise levels of evidence and what a systematic review is.
2.	Apply a suitable structured format to a clinical question suitable for undertaking a systematic review.
3.	Apply the processes and structure of a systematic review protocol.
4.	Develop and implement a search strategy for a structured clinical question, identifying key terms and appropriate research databases.
5.	Critically evaluate literature search strategy outcomes for rigour of evidence.
6.	Critically evaluate and synthesise research data.
