Dictionaries are an essential part of language documentation and an invaluable asset in the maintenance, promotion, revitalisation and protection of cultural and linguistic diversity. They act as cultural repositories and serve to elevate the status of language. This unit will enable students to apply the knowledge they have learned to critically appraise existing lexicographic resources, and prepare new ones. Students will gain skills in using a range of software and database sources for dictionary work and language material management, including software created by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people for the use in digitising traditional languages and creating language tools.
