Unit Description

This unit will enhance students' skills within the field of coaching, including sport, performance and the teaching environment. The unit emphasizes training principles, coaching strategies, the coach-athlete relationship, leadership and communication tools, game day environment, inclusive practices, and daily situations in sport. Attention will be given to coaching behaviours and their effect upon performance in a range of areas. Students in this unit must complete 10 hours of coaching experience in a sport of their choice.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply theoretical knowledge, competencies and skills at a beginner to intermediate coaching level.
2.	Develop skills and knowledge for effective collaboration in the sporting environments.
3.	Develop and implement an individual/team training program in a selected sporting environment.
4.	Apply practical coaching skills, including short and long-term athlete planning, leadership and communication styles.
5.	Effectively communicate using both written and oral skills when working with people from diverse cultures and age groups.
