Unit Description

This unit provides students with a broad and coherent knowledge and understanding of a range of cardiometabolic conditions and the factors that require special attention when prescribing exercise. Students will learn how to assess the exercise capacity of clientele and prescribe exercise to improve health and wellbeing without increasing the risk of adverse effects. Students will analyse the anatomical and physiological causes of the chronic health conditions and apply scientific literature and clinical decision making in programming, prescribing and delivering rehabilitative exercises for a range of chronic health conditions.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Explain the pathological and pathophysiological bases of chronic health conditions and their interactions with exercise.
2.	Apply clinical knowledge in the physical assessment, treatment and management of chronic health conditions within the scope of practice.
3.	Analyse the varying factors affecting the treatment objectives and their implications on exercise, and functional capacity for individuals with chronic health conditions.
4.	Apply scientific research and current clinical guidelines, to decision-making in chronic health condition rehabilitation practice.
