This unit provides students the opportunity to explore the concept of violence, violence perpetrators and its survivors, and its impacts on children, families and diverse communities. Sociological theories are used to explore and critique contextual and intersecting factors such as gender, history, culture and power that shape societal responses to, and understandings of, violence. Students will explore responses to family and domestic violence, and critically reflect on the role of trauma including vicarious trauma.
