In this unit, students will critically examine advanced social work models, skills and techniques for professional social work practice in a range of contexts. Students will critically reflect on relevant sources of information to assess client needs and develop appropriate interventions with individuals, groups and communities. Models for practice will be linked to a broader analysis issues of disadvantage and oppression in societies. In particular, students will develop advanced knowledge for practice in the areas of children and families, mental health, and for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This provides students with the opportunity to develop, practice and critically review social work skills and techniques for advanced practice. A compulsory 5-day intensive block at Casuarina Campus is included in this unit.
