Unit Description

This unit examines the social and cultural frameworks that inform long term, generative engagement and partnerships with Indigenous Australians in management of resources on their land and sea estates. Exploration of the social and cultural construction of knowledge and knowledge-making processes provides a foundation for analysing socio-political, socioeconomic and policy drivers of Indigenous engagement and generative partnerships in the field of land and sea management. The practical application of the principles developed through the examination of case studies will allow students to relate their learning to their own professional contexts.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Analyse Indigenous people's engagement in the management of natural and cultural resources on land and/or sea estates in North Australia.
2.	Identify and examine protocols for appropriate and equitable engagement of Indigenous people in land and/or sea management programs.
3.	Analyse and critique government and private industry policies and practices for the engagement of Indigenous people in land and sea management.
4.	Identify and characterise elements of policy and professional practice that facilitate equitable and appropriate engagement of Indigenous people in land and/or sea management.
5.	Assess strategies for addressing policy and practices that impede or prevent Indigenous people's engagement in land and/or sea management.
