Unit Description

This unit provides in depth knowledge of short-term responses and long-term adaptations of physiological systems to bout/s of training in normal and special environmental conditions. Students will have the knowledge and skills to analyse energy systems involved in physical activity and sport, and analyse the way training program variables including the use of performance enhancement substances.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Explain the functions, regulations and interaction of physiological systems relating to exercise.
2.	Analyse the energy requirements of different energy systems at rest, during physical activity and various sports.
3.	Analyse the physiological responses and adaptations to different environmental conditions.
4.	Monitor training loads and implement strategies to improve health and performance in various cohorts of students.
5.	Locate relevant information from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Australian Sport Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA), and describe the underlying mechanisms and risks associated with performance enhancing drugs and supplements.
