In this unit, pre-service teachers will analyse the processes of knowledge construction in Indigenous contexts with a view to developing a better understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. A critical evaluation of the way Indigenous knowledges are incorporated into the Australian Curriculum will assist pre-service teachers to develop practices for the meaningful embedding of Indigenous Knowledges into school curricula. Study in the unit will inform existing pedagogical approaches and provide opportunities for the incorporation of 21st century Indigenous pedagogies into formal educational settings.
