| This unit aligns with the guiding principles of a recovery-oriented approach to mental health. Recovery-oriented mental health practice acknowledges recovery refers to more than merely reducing symptoms. Rather, recovery-oriented mental health practice refers to the application of sets of capabilities that support people to recognise and autonomously take responsibility for their own recovery and wellbeing, to define their goals, meaning and purpose in life (ACSQHC, 2018).
Students will analyse relevant theories, legislation, policies and standards that underpin mental health practice in Australia. Core to this unit is the investigation and critical analyses of recovery-oriented principles and their relevance to The National Standards for Mental Health Services and mental health culture.
Students will critically evaluate the skills and knowledge required to work in multidisciplinary teams in providing person centred delivery of services. Students will evaluate the strengths and limitations of different models. They will develop knowledge, skills and attitudes required by all mental health professionals, and develop an advanced understanding of how each approach applies to diverse contexts and aligns with The National Standards for Mental Health Services values and principles.
