The focus of this unit is on special populations and their specific needs for engaging in physical activity. The unit provides students with a broad and coherent knowledge and understanding of the exercise needs of a range of chronic health conditions and the factors that require special attention when prescribing exercise. Students will learn how to assess exercise capacity of clientele and prescribe exercise to improve health and wellbeing without increasing the risk of adverse events. In addition, students will access and apply scientific literature and clinical decision making in programming and prescribing and delivering exercise and programs for a range of diverse populations and health conditions.
