This unit explores unique opportunities and challenges of allied health practice in rural and remote areas of Australia. A multidisciplinary framework for competent remote allied health practice is presented. Topics covered include; environmental, sociological, cultural considerations, health disparities faced by Indigenous and non-Indigenous individuals, health policies and initiatives and coping with geographical isolation for professionals working in rural and remote areas. This unit focuses on reflective practice and interprofessional competencies, in developing the interpersonal and professional knowledge and skills for competent rural and remote practice.
